DevLog: 4th Week

Ana Abreu

During this week, we produced our prototypes. Yesterday, we had a meeting where we discussed all the work we have done so far and gathered some feedback. The next step is to do some user testing with our focus group and understand what can be improved/changed to turn Caleb's Demons into a more interesting and entertaining game. In the meantime, we have also gathered with the artists and met the game writers for the first time.

This week we did the prototypes. After showing our low fid prototypes to each other we have a much more concrete view of the game and we have changed the gameloop of the overall level a little bit. We also had a meeting with the writing and art students, it was mostly just to get to know each other since it was the first meeting with the writing people but we realized we needed to start working harder on establishing the storyline and what we really want it to be. Next week we will deliver our prototypes as well as some reports on the tech feasibility and user feedback from them.

This week we produced our prototypes. After discussing each member’s prototype, we have a much better idea of the game loop and the pace of the game. We also had a meeting with the art and writing students, in the meeting we discussed the overhaul feel of the game’s story and realized we need to clarify our intentions for the game's story.

This week the team's task was to develop low fidelity prototypes on paper to get a better understanding of what "Caleb's Demons" would look like on screen. This was a very helpful exercise since it helped us realize the different visions of the game each member of the team had. It pointed out some details about our concept which we had forgotten to define and other design aspects which arouse from transferring our ideas to a physical format. This week we also met with our new writing team. They seem quite interested in Caleb's story and eager to further develop it. It's the first time I've worked with a team this size and I have the feeling that coordination between all of us will not be an easy task. Nevertheless, everyone has been very cooperative and active in the process so far, so I believe we will manage if we keep up this level of work.
